Area of Specialization:Haematologist
The service component of the department involves provision of both clinical and laboratory services to the public.
As one of the teaching arms of the clinical sciences of the College of Medicine, medical students undergo a vigorous rotation comprising of lectures, tutorials, practicals and bedside teaching (both in clinic and in the wards). The department is also actively involved in training intern doctors, intern medical laboratory scientists, medical laboratory technicians and other exchange students on industrial training. It also has the capacity to train resident doctors.
The department is involved in research and management collaborations predominantly in the areas of sickle cell disease and haemophilia with other departments in the hospital, non-medical departments in the university, International institutions as well as non-governmental organizations.
